Seat Belt Use Rates

Seat Belt Use Rates in Alberta and Canada.

Keeping track of trends in seat belt and child safety seat use provides useful information for planning and targeting education efforts. Transport Canada has been providing provincial seat belt wearing rates since early 2000s. In 1999, Alberta conducted the first Rural Seat Belt Survey, providing useful information that showed a distinct difference between urban and rural use patterns. In 2004, Transport Canada began reporting on rural seat belt wearing rates for all provinces.
